Istana Bukit Serene

Istana Bukit Serene

Istana Bukit Serene is the royal palace and official residence of the Sultan of Johor, located in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. Completed in 1939, the palace was a gift from the Johor government to Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Abu Bakar in honor of his 40th anniversary on the throne. The palace showcases Art Deco architectural elements and features a distinctive 35-meter-high tower. Its expansive gardens serve as venues for royal gatherings and celebrations. During World War II, the Japanese Imperial Army utilized the palace as a strategic base to plan the invasion of Singapore. Today, while the palace itself is not open to the public, visitors can admire its exterior and the iconic crown archway at the entrance, making it a notable landmark in Johor Bahru.
